چکیده

This study examined the effect of trans-dehydrocrotonin (DCTN), a 19-norclerodane diterpene isolated from Croton cajucara Benth (Euphorbiaceae), as analgesic and its effect on the central nervous system (CNS) of rodents using different animal models. The DCTN intraperitoneally exhibited mild analgesic activity on hot-plate test, but exhibited strong antinociceptive activity against acetic acid-induced abdominal writhing and the ED50 was calculated to be 44.88 mg/kg. At higher doses (100 mg/kg) it exhibited mild CNS depressant activities in laboratory animals. Moreover, it has negligible antidepressant activity. After taking consideration of the drug interaction, the DCTN can be used as a potent analgesic agent in case of peripheral algesia, without affecting the CNS.

Trans-Dehydrocrotonin, a 19-nor-clerodane, is the major norditerpene obtained from Croton cajucara, a Brazilian medicinal plant which presents important biological effects, such as antineoplastic and antiulcerogenic activities. In this work, we analyzed the effect of this sesquiterpene lactone on normal human lymphocytes. The cell viability was verified after treatment for 24 and 72 h with tran...

Cross-talks between the kidneys and the central nervous system in multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease, which is considered as a common autoimmune disorder in young adults. A growing number of evidences indicated that the impairment in non-neural tissues plays a significant role in pathology of MS disease. There are bidirectional relationship, metabolic activities and functional similarity between central nervous system (CNS) and k...

Natural trans-crotonin: the antiulcerogenic effect of another diterpene isolated from the bark of Croton cajucara Benth.

The nor-clerodane diterpene trans-crotonin isolated from the bark of Croton cajucara BENTH. was investigated for its ability to prevent the formation of gastric-mucosa ulceration in different experimental models in mice. The results obtained from crotonin were compared with those obtained with another diterpene, DHC (trans-dehydrocrotonin) in the same models. When previously administered (p.o.)...

A Case Report of Primary Angiitis of the Central Nervous System

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Primary angiitis of the central nervous system (PACNS) is an inflammatory vasculitis with very low frequency and prevalence. It is not clear why the inflammatory process of this disease is limited to cerebrovascular disease without systemic manifestations. A case of primary angiitis of the central nervous system with cerebrovascular manifestations is reported here.  C...
